Güzelce Ali Paşa (Güzelce ʿAlī Paşa, 989–1030/1581–1621), an Ottoman admiral and grand vizier, was born in İstanköy, in Istanbul. His father was İstanköylü Ahmed (Aḥmad) Paşa, and he was descended from the Prophet on his mother’s side. Besides Güzelce, he is also known by the laqab s (honorifics) Çelebi and İstanköylü. His first state position was sancakbeyi ( sancaqbeği , administrator of a sub-district) of Dimyat. After holding the successive posts of beylerbeyi ( beğlerbeği , governor) and sancakbeyi of Tunis, the Morea (Mora), and Cyprus, he was once
