Abstract	:	Gwalior Fort looms over the city of Gwalior, in the present-day state of Madhya Pradesh, in north-central India. It is situated on a rocky platform 104 metres high at its highest point, 2.4 kilometres along its north-south axis, and 820 metres from east to west. Its majestic fortifications can be reached by a broad road lined with about one hundred Jain caves carved from the rock and decorated with sculptures, probably dating from the fifteenth century. The artistic history of Gwalior is especially difficult to trace
