Sirāj al-Dīn Abū Ḥafṣ ʿUmar b. ʿAlī b. Aḥmad al-Shāfiʿī al-Miṣrī, known as Ibn al-Mulaqqin (723–804/1323–1401), was a Shāfiʿī jurist known for his voluminous scholarship on ḥadīth and jurisprudence. Al-Suyūṭī (the Egyptian scholar, theologian, expert in jurisprudence, teacher, and prolific writer, d. 911/1505), for example, categorises him amongst the ḥadīth experts ( Ḥusn , 1:360) and the Shāfiʿī jurists ( Ḥusn , 1:438) of Egypt, although he wrote prolifically in many other fields as well. Ibn al-Mulaqqin’s father, Nūr al-Dīn
