Abstract	:	Abū Bakr Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm Ibn al-Mundhir al-Naysābūrī was an exceptional Sunnī jurist and Qurʾānic exegete. Virtually nothing is known of his life, beyond his youth in Nīshāpūr and his death in his adopted home of Mecca, probably in 318/930. He must have arrived in Mecca before 276/889–90, because that is the year of the death of one of his major Meccan ḥadīth teachers, Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl al-Ṣāʾigh. Ibn al-Mundhir’s most important teachers in Nīshāpūr include Ismāʿīl b. Qutayba (d. 284/897),
