Abstract	:	Bahāʾ al-Dīn Abū l-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. Muḥammad b. Rustum b. Hardūz (553–604/1159–1208), known as Ibn al-Sāʿātī , was an Arabic poet of the Ayyūbid era. He was born in Damascus to a father of Khurāsānian origin, who was a famous clockmaker (sāʿātī) ; his brother Fakhr al-Dīn Riḍwān became a noted physician. At some stage, when he was in his thirties, Bahāʾ al-Dīn moved to Egypt to improve his situation, and there he composed odes on the founder of the Ayyūbid dynasty, Ṣalāḥ al-
