Abstract	:	Abū Ḥafṣ ʿUmar b. Khalaf Ibn Makkī al-Māzarī al-Ṣiqillī (d. 501/1107–8), was an Arab lexicographer and jurist, who lived in Sicily and Tunis. Ibn Makkī grew up in Sicily, where he studied under Ibn al-Birr (d. 460/1068) and became a master of ḥadīth , Islamic law, Arabic philology, and poetry. After the beginning of the Norman invasion in Sicily, in 452/1060, Ibn Makkī emigrated to Tunis, where he was appointed qāḍī (judge).
