Abstract : Abū l-ʿAbbās Aḥmad Ibn ʿArūs (d. 868/1463), also known as Sidi ben Arous, was a saintly late-mediaeval miracle worker. He is famous for his eccentricities and for the spatial and religious centrality of his mausoleum in the city of Tunis. Thanks to his miraculous acts, his popularity, and the support he received from the Ḥafṣid sultans (r. 627–982/1229–1574 in Tunisia and eastern Algeria), he was considered the patron saint (sulṭān al-madīna) of Tunis, according to the only hagiographic narrative dedicated to him, by
