Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu (Yaʿqūb Qadrī, 1306/1889–1974) was a Turkish novelist, memoirist, journalist, politician, and diplomat. On the paternal line, he came from a well-known family of provincial notables known as the Karaosmanoğulları (Qara-ʿOthmān Oghulları), from the area of Manisa, in western Anatolia. His mother was from the palace of Khedive İsmāʿīl Paşa (d. 1312/1895). Yakup Kadri was born in Cairo, where he spent the first six years of his life.
