Abstract	:	Keramat is the name for the hundreds of pilgrimage sites scattered across the islands of Southeast Asia, which are sacred to many Muslims. The Malay-Indonesian term keramat (often spelled kramat ) comes from the Arabic karāma in the sense of “miraculous deed,” especially one performed by a saintly person. In the languages of insular Southeast Asia, keramat can have varying meanings, depending on whether the term is used as an adjective or noun. As an adjective it means “sacred” or “spooky” when referring to a place or an object thought
