Abstract	:	Kisve bahası (Ott. Turk., or baha-i kisve , cash value of clothing) is an Ottoman administrative/chancery term used for cash disbursements to new Muslims who converted to Islam in the presence of the sultan or other Ottoman dignitaries. The practice is of historiographical significance, as it marks the last stage of the process of conversion to Islam in the Balkans and reflects changing mechanisms for social mobility in Ottoman society.
