Abstract : Moses Maimonides (532–600/1138–1204) is the Latin name of Moshe ben Maimon, probably the most famous of mediaeval Jewish thinkers. In Muslim sources he appears as Abū ʿImrān Mūsā b. ʿUbaydallāh b. Maymūn al-Qurṭubī. A physician, philosopher, community leader, and foremost authority in Jewish law, he is known, amongst Jews, also by the honorific “The Great Eagle” (Ezekiel 13:3) and by the Hebrew acronym RaMBaM (Rabbi Moshe Ben Maimon).
