Abstract : Miṣr al-Fatāt (Young Egypt) was initially a youth movement, later a formal political party, active in Egyptian public life from 1933 until 1953. The organisation had its roots in the Egyptian youth activism of the early 1930s, emerging from the Piastre Plan (Mashrūʿ al-Qirsh), a student-led drive to raise subscriptions for the promotion of Egyptian industry during the depression. In October 1933 student activists from the Plan formed the Young Egypt Society (Jamʿiyyat Miṣr al-Fatāt). The movement’s leader and dominant figure throughout its existence was
