Abstract	:	ʿAbd al-Malik b. Ṣāliḥ was a cousin of the caliphs al-Saffāḥ (r. 132–6/749–54) and al-Manṣūr (r. 136–58/754–75). His brothers and their families, known collectively as the Banū Ṣāliḥ, were pillars of the early ʿAbbāsid government until the Fourth Civil War, and they remained influential and wealthy notables even afterward, particularly in northern Syria. ʿAbd al-Malik served the caliph Hārūn al-Rashīd (r. 170–93/786–809) as governor of Medina and Egypt and led a few of the summer campaigns
