Abstract : The ʿAbd al-Wādids (Banū ʿAbd al-Wād, or Zayyānids, Banū Zayyān) were a Zanāta tribe of the central Maghrib whose military prowess and diplomacy enabled them to rule almost continuously for over three centuries, from the first half of the seventh/thirteenth century to the middle of the tenth/sixteenth century. At the height of their power, according to Ibn Khaldūn (d. 808/1406), they ruled from their capital at Tlemcen over a territory that extended from the Wādī al-Kabīr in the east to the Wādī Malwiyya in
