Abstract	:	The Ḥafṣids (Banū Ḥafṣ) were a dynasty that ruled mostly in the eastern region of the Maghrib (Ifrīqiya) from 627/1229 to 982/1574. Their name derives from Abū Ḥafṣ ʿUmar al-Hintāti (d. 571/1176), the leader of one of the tribes that helped ʿAbd al-Muʾmin (r. 524–58/1130–63) establish the Almohad (al-Muwaḥḥid) empire after the death of the Mahdī Ibn Tūmart in 524/1130. The Ḥafṣids claimed the mantle of the Almohads and have thus been seen as the second Almohad dynasty, after that
