Abstract : Āq-Sunqur al-Bursuqī (d. 519/1126), Sayf al-Dīn Abū Saʿīd Qāsim al-Dawla, was a Saljūqid commander and atabeg in Iraq and northern Syria. Originally the mamlūk of the powerful Saljūqid general Bursuq, Āq-Sunqur made his name as governor ( shiḥna ) of Iraq. In 500/1105, he fought against the predations of the Mazyadī Dubays II (d. 529/1135), whose forces were menacing Baghdad itself. In 507/1113, he was also named governor of Mosul, whence he led the jihād against the Franks in Syria and expanded Saljūqid
