Abstract : Aḥmad Ḥusayn (1908–82) was an Egyptian lawyer and nationalist politician, and co-founder of the paramilitary movement the Young Egypt Society ( Jamʿiyyat Miṣr al-Fatāh). He was born on 8 March 1908 in Cairo, where his father, Maḥmūd Ḥusayn, was a civil servant in the Ministry of Finance. Ḥusayn attended the Khedivial Secondary School and the faculty of law at Cairo University, graduating in 1933. He first came to public prominence in 1931–2 as one of the young organisers of the Piastre Plan (Mashrūʿ al-Qirsh), a collection
