Abstract
:
Might the forgetting of critical culture–language-bound metaphors be the eradication of personality? Could following the trail back through these metaphors provide one perspective on the individuation process described in Jungian psychology? The author utilizes the concept of spatial metaphor developed by Lakoff and Johnson and subjects this cognitive frame to the understanding of embodied intelligence as understood by Nietzsche, Deleuze and Merleau-Ponty. Specific language recorders in both English and Japanese are compared in an effort to assess comparable metaphors as they function, and begin to lose functionality, at the edges of language.
