Abstract : This essay focuses on Chapter Six, “Are Religions Out of Touch with Reality?” of Kevin Schilbrack’s Philosophy and the Study of Religion: A Manifesto. Two objections are discussed: the rehabilitation of metaphysics and the concept “unmediated experience.” Throughout, Jürgen Habermas’s postmetaphysical communicative theoretic is drawn upon to field reasonable alternatives to Schilbrack’s proposals.
