Abstract : Blamelessness is a multi-faceted concept that generally refers to the wholeness or completeness of relationship between persons or between God and man. This dissertation begins with this thesis: In light of the new covenant promises that are fulfilled in Christ, Paul first develops the Jewish concept of blamelessness through his self-proclaimed discontinuity with Judaism. Paul further develops this concept by encouraging a real, God-wrought blamelessness in the Christian life and at the final judgment. After Damascus, Paul’s view of humanity moves from privilege to plight, and his view of human agency according to the law moves from synergism to energism. These two shifts can be seen as a movement from congruent grace to incongruent grace. Nevertheless, Paul has not completely abandoned Judaism; rather, post-Damascus Paul’s Judaism is fulfilled based on OT promises. The goal of this dissertation is to show how these points illuminate Paul’s development of the concept of blamelessness.
