Abstract	:	I am studying the role religion plays in society. I will look at religion and violence in three specific societies and determine if religion is used as a tool to perpetrate violence. I want to figure out if religion is a cause in promoting violence within the United States, Israel, and South Africa. I will study how religion is manipulated to cause violence by looking at case studies where individuals/groups manipulate religion to use it as a tool for violence. This will be part of my qualitative research and thus make up my methodology. I will begin with defining violence and researching case studies where crimes were committed in the name of religion. I want to know more about when the state encourages people to use religion as a tool to perpetrate violence.
