Abstract
:
The approach of the Saudi Vision 2030 is to put the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian on the world tourism map. Over 30 licenses have been given to establish touristic accommodation facilities in Aseer to achieve this approach (Al-Qurafi, 2019). Nevertheless, none of those investments was a resort or considered the environmental, social, cultural, and economic factors of Aseer region. Sustainable Tourism Development in Aseer region will integrate the environment, community, and conserve the natural resources. Also, the mountain region in Aseer is an ideal location to construct sustainable resorts that will revive the tourism industry. Therefore, due to the lack of sustainable resorts in Aseer, this thesis provided insight into developing a sustainable mountain resorts design framework. The methodology approach was a qualitative method by analyzing five foreign case studies to identify the sustainable practices, and the survey results tackled the tourists’ requirements and utilized their opinions in the proposed design framework. This framework directed into four integration of landscape, water and energy efficiency, sustainable construction, and local community engagement. This framework can give essential guidance to stakeholders and architects to design sustainable resorts in the mountain area of Aseer.
