Abstract : The pressure transient behavior of a well in an anisotropic reservoir intersected by multiple fractures has been investigated using an existing single-phase 2D numerical model. Results were correlated in terms of dimensionless pressure drop and dimensionless time. Values of permeability anisotropic ratio usd(k\sb{y}/k\sb{x})usd ranging from 0.25-10.0 were used in this study. It was found from the analysis of the developed curves that multiple infinite conductivity fractures are not recommended over a single fracture having the same total length of the multiple fractures. When the fractures conductivity is infinite, the formation linear flow period was observed for all the various permeability anisotropic ratios considered. A new definition was introduced for dimensionless fracture conductivity for an anisotropic reservoir with multiple finite conductivity fractures. For low values of dimensionless fracture conductivity (usd\bar F\sb<10\piusd), it was found that finite conductivity multiple fractures are preferred over a finite conductivity single fracture. Up to 20% improvement in performance was gained by having finite conductivity multiple fractures if permeability anisotropy exist.
