Abstract	:	Using a critical discourse analysis, I examined how news media organizations present information when reporting about attacks meeting domestic or international terrorism criteria and what information is distributed to consumers of the news. In addition to analyzing media coverage to identify who is given a platform to speak and what is said, I describe who is not interviewed and what messages are emphasized, implicitly and explicitly, when terrorist attacks occur. I explored presuppositions inherent in the language used to report on attacks meeting terrorism criteria and the ways in which media organizations oppress and eliminate the voices of the individuals who are not involved in terrorist attacks. I focused on what information is made available or unavailable about perpetrators of terrorism and the attacks, and how information varies in certain contexts.
