Abstract : Embodiment is a faith-based intervention program created to increase positive body image and decrease self-objectification among Christian women through the use of biblical messages about the body. This study was approved by the Protection of Human Rights in Research Committee. The proposed intervention used an eight-week discussion group designed to focus on biblical teachings about the body in relation to cognitions, body functionality, and self-compassion in order to increase positive body image and reduce levels of self-objectification among Christian women. Undergraduate female participants (N = 38) from Biola University were asked to complete a screening questionnaire prior to being selected for the study. Those selected were randomly assigned to two groups: Embodied and control. Repeated Measures ANOVAs were used to analyze the differences between groups over time. The study found participants in the Embodied discussion group showed a significant increase in experiential awareness of their bodies as compared to the control group. Results are discussed.
