Abstract	:	For nearly 250 years, European settlers have been interfering with the natural course and condition of the San Lorenzo River in Santa Cruz, California. This disturbance has caused ecological and environmental damage and has had long-term effects on people living near the river area. This is a complex issue; the river has been scarred by repeated abuses as people have lost the ability to understand the extent and degree of this damage.
