Abstract : Initiation of protein synthesis in the eukaryotic cell proceeds by two major mechanisms: "cap-dependent" mode, which involves the assembly of the pre-initiation complex at the 5' cap m7GpppX structure in the mRNA and the "cap-independent" mechanism, in which the ribosome lands directly on the internal AUG (reviewed in (Prevot et al., 2003)).
