Abstract : The Kingdom of God forms the core of Jesus' teaching. It is the subject of most of his parables, and it is what he told his disciples to preach in all the world. Only recently have changing cultural attitudes toward Judaism allowed us to rediscover what Jesus, the first-century Jew and rabbi, meant by the Kingdom of God. This study examines what Jesus meant by the Kingdom of God by looking at the Hebrew meaning of words related to the Kingdom of God, Jesus' use of parallelisms and idioms, along with the way Jesus used the phrase with his disciples. When Jesus spoke of the Kingdom of God, he was saying that it is the active power of God ready to bring deliverance, safety, preservation, healing, and soundness. It is God's redemptive agenda, his sedeqa, his vindication.
