Abstract	:	This study will examine the New Testament priesthood as seen in 1 Peter 2:5–10. The introductory chapter will state the purpose, methodology, relevant definitions, presuppositions and limitations of this thesis. The second chapter will briefly consider Israel's priestly status, both that of the Levites and the nation as a whole. The third chapter will establish the priestly duty based upon the universal call to salvation as God's initial plan interwoven throughout history. In the fourth chapter the New Testament priesthood will be seen and bath its continuity and discontinuity with Israel observed in the comparison of the Levites with the fivefold ministry and the various sacrifices offered. The last chapter will review the evidence and evaluate the task of the Church as the New Testament priesthood, noting some possible applications of the material herein. The purpose of this work is to examine this one analogy of the Church in order to come to a solid understanding of what the functions and responsibilities of the Church are in light of the New Testament priesthood.
