Abstract:This thesis identifies the current activities of six NGOs and CBOs in Ward 61, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and analyzes the future partnership possibilities for waterborne disease prevention among non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs), in cooperation with the local government. A series of interviews (n=9) with NGOs, CBOs, and members of the public sector, a focus group discussion, and school visits were conducted. The results indicate that there is strong possibility for establishing partnerships among existing NGOs and CBOs to conduct water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in schools and communities of the study area. Recommendations are made for building partnerships, renovating water and sanitation facilities in schools to be child- and gender-friendly, improving the utilization of existing water and sanitation facilities in schools, carrying out hygiene education, and implementing an awareness-raising campaign for community members. Specific emphasis is placed on women and children's participation and cost-sharing with communities.
