Often defined as trust, norms, or networks which facilitate collective action, the concept has been used to explain why certain groups within a society advance faster than others with relatively similar characteristics. Using the concept of social capital, this thesis explores the effectiveness of Bosnian women's NGOs in empowering the local women. The study uses both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess strength of the social capital within Bosnian women's NGOs and its role in empowering the women. It argues that, despite certain limitations, social capital in women's NGOs is an important avenue for empowerment of the women. | Subject | : | Social sciences; Political science; Womens studies; Social capital; Nongovernmental organizations--NGOs; Bosnia-Hercegovina; 0453:Womens studies; 0615:Political science | Added Entry | : | Carleton University (Canada) |
