Abstract	:	To better understand the role of the Kuwaiti news media, this research looked at the Kuwaiti audience's perception of the role of the news media in society using traditional media analogies, and the audience's perceptions of the press' performance in citizen involvement in public dialogue. Results from a survey of 472 citizens show that certain variables like higher income, higher education and more political involvement mean more support for watchdog media. At the same time, results show that this does not mean that they are also more critical of the performance of the Kuwaiti news media as watchdog. This study also examined citizen involvement in public dialogue. This includes three stages: communication between journalists and their audience, audience understanding of public issues, and audience participation in discussion about public issues. Various demographic and media variables are regressed to determine their variance on the media models.
