Abstract	:	This thesis pursues visual and textual research in exploring the relationship between graphic design products and the sociopolitical situation of women in contemporary Iran. The discussion focuses on how politics in the contemporary Iranian context reflects the visual representations of women's bodies. In particular, I address the extent to which political regulation of gender behavior has confirmed or modified existing notions of gender in Iranian culture. Questions raised in this research concern the pervasive censorship with regard to images of women in contemporary Iranian visual work. I also investigate how this censorship functions to oppress and undermine Iranian women. Through an analysis of visual representations of Iranian women from two divergent political periods, I demonstrate the importance of visual products in shaping the ideological beliefs of Iranian society.
