Abstract:HIV/AIDS is a new, emerging problem among intravenous drug users (I/V) in Bangladesh. Although HIV/AIDS prevalence in Bangladesh compared to the surrounding countries is still low, ongoing high-risk behaviors among I/V drug users could facilitate more extensive transmission of HIV/AIDS to the general population. This study assessed the HIV/AIDS risk behavior, knowledge and attitudes among I/V drug users in Bangladesh. It also facilitated an understanding of the socio-demographic conditions among I/V drug users in Bangladesh and established a relationship between those conditions and the risk factors of HIV/AIDS. This study utilized an anonymous semi-structured face-to-face interview questionnaire. The questionnaire included questions concerning demographic conditions, high-risk behaviors, knowledge and attitudes regarding HIV/AIDS among I/V drug users. The results in of this study can help to gain a better understanding of their needs as well as to create successful intervention to reduce the burdens and consequences of HIV/AIDS.
