Abstract	:	This project will address how the abuse and exploitation of Sri Lankan domestic migrant workers are made possible in Lebanon. First, through an historical and cultural analysis, it will outline the positionality of the domestic migrant worker as defined as a life outside of the sovereign state and society in Lebanon. Second, through an analysis of the day-to-day operations of four "state" bodies, which affect the working and living conditions of household workers in the country, it will highlight how such bodies collude to produce and reproduce the private home, the place of work of maids and nannies, as a state of exception. Finally, engaging with Agamben's (1998) theoretical work on the state of exception it will discuss how the Sri Lankan domestic migrant worker is homo sacer and the state and society are the sovereigns.
