These countries are selected for their differential standing on the cultural value dimension of individualism-collectivism. A conceptual model is developed and tested for its validity and generalizability. There is partial support for the hypothesized moderating relationships but the overall pattern of results is mixed and inconclusive. The relationships between the facets of organizational stress and psychological strain are not significant in all countries. Better support is found for the relationships between psychological strain and organizationally valued work outcomes; however, the relationship between psychological strain and job involvement is in the opposite direct predicted in all five countries. Limitations of the present study are discussed. The findings are interpreted for their implications for the role of cultural variations in future research on organizational stress. | Subject | : | Social sciences; Collectivism; Culture; Individualism; Locus of control; Organizational stress; Work; Management; Organizational behavior; 0703:Organizational behavior; 0454:Management | Added Entry | : | R.
