Abstract	:	This quality improvement project seeks to reduce future rework due to excessive angular deflection of T-section structural steel beams assembled using manual double fillet shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) at AK & Partners Heavy Industries in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. An FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) was completed with the aim of optimizing the current process employed by the company. A designed experiment (DOE) involving factors and levels recommended by the project team and approved by AK & Partners' management was also conducted. The results of the DOE confirmed the effects of two of the techniques found in the literature review. A 97% confidence level that the type of weld pass sequence is significant to angular distortion was found. In addition, a 94% confidence level was found that the use of tack weld plates is significant to angular distortion.
