For comparison, the same tests were performed in ambient air. Tribological behaviour of treated Ti-alloy was investigated by means of SEM, EDS, XRD. The excellent enhancement in wear of thermally oxidized Ti-6A1-4V alloy was observed while they were in contact with a ban of the same material in high vacuum. Also, thermally oxidized samples tested against themselves in vacuum showed the lowest coefficient of friction and minimum counterface damage. However, a shift from adhesion wear for untreated Ti-alloy to abrasive wear was encountered in treated samples tested in vacuum. In addition, the dry sliding wear between surface treated Ti-6A1-4V and 52100 steel balls caused severe damage at the tip of counterface. | Subject | : | Applied sciences; Materials science; 0794:Materials science | Added Entry | : | University of Windsor (Canada) |
