Animal signals are some of the most conspicuous and musterious structures in nature. Animals employ specialized sexual structures (such as antlers of horns) to communicate with other individuals of the same species, with different species, or even to predators. The diversity of animal signals has been widely documented, and the generality of animal signals also tantalizingly suggest that there are common mechanisms that have been selected for their origin.
