Abstract
:
Geri (public administration, Evergreen State College) and McNabb (emeritus, business administration, Pacific Lutheran U.) offer an overview of US energy policy development in the past and present as well as those proposed to achieve energy independence. They address the issues from the perspective of the difficulties encountered in creating and implementing policy. They also assert up front that there are no immediate or short-term solutions; that the Obama administration's early published energy policies caution that long-term commitment (and investment) are needed, and that the US Department of Energy's target date of 2030 for numerous studies to bear fruit--a time frame they contend is too long. The book would be useful for all stakeholders, including policy makers at all levels of government and leaders in energy industries and research. It also is written in a way that makes it accessible to general interest readers. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
