Abstract
:
Streets of Crocodiles is a significant book, which mixes photography and essays to explore postsocialist Europe. Focused on Poland and on the city of Lodz (from where both the photographer and essayist orginate), this is a powerful document of the transformations of post-Berlin-Wall Eastern Europe and an expose of persistent anti_Semitism and other deep-seated hatreds. The stunning photographs by Kamil Turoski are shocking and moving as he persuasively captures the postsocialist landscape. Katarzyna Marciniak's writing amplifies the charge of the imagery. This book is a reminder that 'new Europe' is also old Europe.--Publisher
