Biological and environmental scientists and engineers explore the role of microorganisms in a wide range of ecosystems and deterioration processes at a technical level that should be accessible to students yet useful to experienced practitioners. The topics include marine microbes and climate change, microbial transformations of radionuclides in the subsurface, the microbial deterioration of cultural heritage materials, the effects of genetically modified plants on soil microorganisms, the anaerobic digestion of agricultural residues, strategies and technologies for low-energy wastewater treatment, and bioremediated geomechanical processes.
