This book recognises sociology of sport as an important subject area for general sociologists to consider as a rich area of research possibility, while also exposing sport sociologists to the social theories that have built up the general discipline. This new book exposes readers to the thinking of great sociologists such as Weber, Mills, Denzin and Elias. It also explains and applies established social theories into sport contexts, including Tiger Woods' dominance, institutional logic within the NCAA and the melding of sport and religion.
