Abstract
:
The focus of this project is creating Small Group Ministry through the lens of John Wesley's understanding of true and intimate Christian community. The major question explored is how Small Group Ministry helps to form and transform Christian community and allows ways for Christians to take care of one another in the body of Christ through mutual accountability and discipleship. This project is focused specifically on the use of the 40 Days of Community curriculum used to implement the Small Group Ministry. The project incorporates a team approach to creating and sustaining Small Group Ministry beyond the scope of this project. The locus of this project is at the Medina United Methodist Church in Medina, Ohio from September 2004 to October 2005. A history of the church provides a setting for the project at the time this project was occurring. Small Group Ministry participants were surveyed before and after the 40 Days of Community program to determine levels of change of the congregation. Personal reflection and evaluation are also part of the project.
