Reading like a letter to a close friend, this book addresses the relationship between people with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers. Discussing ways to maintain dignity as well as caregivers' sanity, it focuses on the practical aspects of daily caregiving, including bathing, toileting, and eating as well as sexuality, safe environments, and rewarding activities. Also addressed is the idea that positive attitudes and improved communication can make the daily life of people with Alzheimer's more pleasant and comfortable. Sample dialogues are included so that caregivers can learn effective phrasing and attitudes to convey, and alternatives to common questions are given to draw the individual into conversation and perhaps even evoke memories.
