Abstract
:
The European Union is attempting to develop a common energy policy, despite many difficulties in the past and current uncertainties. This book examines the evolution of energy policy in a number of European states, analysing the similarities and differences in approach across the Union. In particular it considers the response in France, Germany, Italy and the UK to the challenges of economic liberalization and environmental protection. The book provides an indepth assessment of national policies in these states, the development of EU policy and the interaction between European initiatives and national strategies. The book offers an up-to-date analysis, providing expert insights into national energy trends and the political and economic context to policy making.
