Abstract
:
This book comprises a collection of revised and updated papers presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Sensory Robotics for the Handling of Limp Materials, held in October 1988 in Italy. The volume brings together for the first time a set of papers describing applications work in this area. It includes surveys of the technological tools now available in sensing and control and several more specialized papers on approaches to providing the tools which will be required in the future. There are also summaries of the discussion sessions, where attempts were made to identify trends and future needs in automated shoe manufacture, automated garment manufacture, sensing, and planning and control. The reader will find the volume to be a useful reference to much important applied research in the area. It identifies research needs which will provide significant challenges for the robotics, sensing and control communities for many years to come.
