There are many diseases of unknown etiology in the orthopedic field. These include rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis as well as aseptic necrosis of the femoral head. The great strides that have been taken toward clarifying the causes of these diseases are documented in this book by experienced specialists of international reknown. They outline new approaches to problems in artificial joint surgery, lead the field in the use of new biomaterials and pioneer other unique treatments. Furthermore, this book describes fundamental concepts for the treatment of fractures, joint infections and osteomyelitis. This book points out how much remains unsolved in basic orthopedic research and shows that this research is an essential part of becoming a leading orthopedic surgeon.
