Abstract : The use of nuclear cardiology techniques has become one of the cornerstones of the noninvasive assessment of coronary artery disease. Myocardium at Risk and Viable Myocardium: Evaluation by SPET is a book that will assist the clinical cardiologist and the nuclear medicine physician in the management of these patients. It is divided into three major sections, each addressing the important topics that have led to the clinical success of nuclear cardiology. The first section is a description of the technical aspects of state-of-the-art myocardial perfusion SPET imaging. The second section discusses different SPET approaches for the assessment of myocardium at risk and compares them to other techniques. The third section addresses the assessment of viable myocardium with SPET and includes discussions on the pathophysiology of stunned and hibernating myocardium, and the clinical need for detecting viable myocardium. This book is written by a team of cardiologists and nuclear medicine physicians who have been performing and interpreting nuclear cardiology procedures for about twenty years. The content of the book reflects the practical understanding of the subject that comes from their day-to-day clinical experience.
