Abstract : According to the author, the quality of a person{u2019}s life is really just a reflection of the quality of that person{u2019}s internal state of mind. That internal state of mind is a reflection of where the person is in the maturation process, which is in turn a reflection of where that person is in the process of evolution. The author examines commonalities in the discoveries of scholars of the arts, social sciences, and natural sciences regarding the human mind, its development, and its evolution. The author uses those discoveries to speculate on why people are the way they are, especially in the realm of human relationships, consciousness, and development, and to suggest ways in which people can take the next step both in personal development, and in making a positive contribution to the process of evolution.
